About Omsana AM Tablet 10mg / 20mg
Olmesartan Medoxomil and Amlodipine combination tablet for hypertension and chronic stable angina control.
Omsana AM Tablet 10mg / 20mg Uses
- Treatment of high blood pressure in adults who need combination therapy
- Management of chronic stable angina when vasodilation is a key treatment goal
- Add on therapy when standard dose Olmesartan or Amlodipine alone is not enough
- Reducing the risk of stroke and heart attack linked to uncontrolled hypertension
Omsana AM Tablet 10mg / 20mg Benefits
- Combines a moderate dose ARB with a fuller dose calcium channel blocker in one tablet
- Higher Amlodipine strength gives stronger vasodilation for harder to control cases
- Once daily dosing supports better adherence than two separate tablets
- Olmesartan component blocks the renin angiotensin pathway alongside the vasodilation
What Experts Say
Olmesartan Medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor blocker that blocks the AT1 receptor to stop blood vessels from tightening. At the 20mg strength used in this tablet, it provides a moderate level of receptor blockade, suitable for patients who respond well to standard dose ARB therapy without needing the higher 40mg strength.
Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that limits calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle, lowering peripheral resistance and easing the workload on the heart. The 10mg dose in this formulation is the higher amlodipine strength, chosen when more vasodilation is needed to bring blood pressure into a healthy range.
Combining a moderate dose ARB with a higher dose calcium channel blocker suits patients whose hypertension responds mainly to vasodilation rather than renin angiotensin suppression. This ratio still blocks two separate pathways, but leans more heavily on the amlodipine component, so mild ankle swelling is a somewhat more common trade off than with lower amlodipine doses.
Drug Class

How to use Omsana AM Tablet 10mg / 20mg?
- One tablet by mouth once daily, preferably at the same time each morning

- Dosing does not depend on meals, so it fits before or after food
- Missed doses are taken as soon as remembered, skipped if the next dose is near
- Sudden dose changes should only happen under medical supervision
Drug Interactions
- Simvastatin: At higher amlodipine doses like 10mg, simvastatin exposure increases, so simvastatin dose is usually capped when taken together
- Lithium: Lithium levels can become toxic when combined with Olmesartan, so levels need closer monitoring
- NSAIDs: Frequent use of painkillers such as ibuprofen can blunt the blood pressure benefit and add strain on the kidneys
- Potassium Sparing Diuretics: Spironolactone or potassium supplements taken alongside this tablet can push blood potassium too high
- CYP3A4 Inhibitors: Strong inhibitors such as clarithromycin or itraconazole can raise amlodipine levels further at this already higher dose
Risks and warnings
- Pregnancy: Renin angiotensin system blockers cause fetal harm, so treatment is stopped immediately once pregnancy is confirmed
- Peripheral Edema: The higher 10mg amlodipine dose in this strength carries a greater chance of ankle and foot swelling than lower amlodipine doses
- Heart Failure: Caution is needed in people with existing heart failure, since calcium channel blockers can worsen fluid retention in some patients
- Kidney Function: Reduced kidney function or renal artery stenosis calls for regular monitoring of kidney values during treatment
- Low Blood Pressure: Combining with other blood pressure lowering drugs raises the risk of dizziness or fainting, especially early in treatment
Omsana AM Tablet 10mg / 20mg Side Effects
