What Experts Say
Paroxin Tablet 20mg contains Paroxetine Hydrochloride, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. It works by blocking the reabsorption of serotonin in the brain, raising the amount available for nerve signaling. This gradually helps regulate mood, calm anxious thoughts and stabilize emotional responses over several weeks of regular use.
Mental health surveys suggest a large share of Pakistan's population experiences depression or anxiety symptoms at some point, yet treatment rates stay low due to stigma and limited access to psychiatric care. General physicians increasingly prescribe SSRIs like paroxetine as first line therapy because they carry a safer overall side effect profile than older tricyclic antidepressants.
Doctors typically start Paroxin Tablet 20mg at a low dose and raise it gradually, which reduces early nausea and restlessness. Abrupt discontinuation is avoided because paroxetine has a relatively short half life and can trigger withdrawal like symptoms, so tapering under medical supervision remains standard practice.
