What Experts Say
Diclofenac is a well known NSAID that blocks the COX enzymes which make prostaglandins. These chemicals drive pain, swelling and fever, so lowering them eases symptoms quickly. The injection is used for acute, short term problems when fast relief is needed.
A 75 mg ampoule is given deep into the buttock muscle by a trained provider. Relief often begins within 30 minutes, and treatment is normally limited to 2 days before switching to tablets if needed. Lowest dose for the shortest time is the guiding rule for every NSAID.
Stomach, kidney and heart risks are higher with injections than with low dose tablets. It should be avoided in suspected dengue, because NSAIDs can raise bleeding risk, and in people with ulcers, kidney disease or heart disease. In Pakistan, injections should be given only with clean, single use needles. Self injection at home is not advised, and a doctor should review any pain that returns.
Drug Class
