What Experts Say
Sangobion combines ferrous gluconate as a readily absorbable iron source providing 30mg elemental iron per capsule with folic acid 1mg and vitamin B12 7.5mcg. The formulation includes vitamin C 50mg which enhances iron absorption through reduction of ferric to ferrous iron, manganese sulphate 0.2mg supporting hemoglobin synthesis, and copper sulphate 0.2mg facilitating iron metabolism and red blood cell maturation.
The B-complex components provide essential cofactors for nucleic acid synthesis critical to erythropoiesis. Folic acid is indispensable for DNA synthesis and rapid cell division in bone marrow, while vitamin B12 participates in one-carbon metabolism and red blood cell maturation. Sorbitol 25mg enhances palatability. Peak serum iron levels occur within 1 to 2 hours of administration.
Clinical efficacy is well established in iron deficiency anemia, megaloblastic anemia secondary to folic acid deficiency, and nutritional anemia. The supplement is particularly valuable in pregnancy where iron demands increase dramatically due to expanded blood volume and fetal requirements, and in postpartum women compensating for labor-related blood loss.
