How to use Septran Syrup?
- Septran syrup can be taken with or without food
- Shake the bottle well before each use and measure with the cup provided
- Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve early
- Do not stop this medicine early, as incomplete courses can lead to antibiotic resistance
Contraindications
- This medicine must not be used by infants under 2 months of age
- Patients with megaloblastic anemia caused by folate deficiency should avoid this medicine
- Should not be taken by patients with a known allergy to sulfonamide medicines
- Not suitable for patients with severe kidney or liver impairment
Drug Interactions
- Warfarin: this medicine increases the blood-thinning effect significantly
- Methotrexate: raises the risk of methotrexate toxicity
- Phenytoin: levels can rise, increasing the risk of side effects
- ACE inhibitors: combining can raise potassium levels in the blood
Risks and warnings
- Sun sensitivity: this medicine can make skin more prone to sunburn
- Blood disorders: rare but serious drops in blood cell counts have been reported
- Kidney function: use cautiously in patients with reduced kidney function
- Skin reaction risk: stop use and see a doctor if a severe rash develops
- Pregnancy: avoid in the first trimester and near delivery unless clearly necessary
- Breastfeeding: use with caution, especially with newborns at risk of jaundice
