It is used as a long term, ongoing treatment, and pressing gently on the inner corner of the eye for a minute after each drop helps reduce the amount absorbed into the rest of the body.

Because some of the drop can enter the bloodstream, it can slow the heart rate and affect breathing in sensitive individuals, so it is used cautiously in asthma, certain heart conditions and slow heart rate.

How to use Timoptol eye drop?

• Use exactly as directed by your eye doctor, usually once or twice daily.
• Wash hands before use.
• Press gently on the inner corner of the eye for a minute after each drop.
• Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any surface.

Drug Interactions

Timoptol drops can add to the effects of other heart or blood pressure medicines.

• Oral beta-blockers or calcium channel blockers: Additive effect on heart rate and blood pressure.
• Other glaucoma eye drops: Can generally be combined but should be spaced a few minutes apart.

Risks and warnings

• Asthma or COPD: Can worsen breathing difficulty in these conditions.
• Heart conditions: Can slow the heart rate; caution in certain heart rhythm problems.
