What Experts Say
Risedronate belongs to the bisphosphonate class, which slows the activity of cells that break down bone tissue. Physicians in Pakistan often prefer the once monthly formulation for older patients who find daily or weekly dosing schedules difficult to maintain consistently.
Osteoporosis is frequently underdiagnosed in Pakistan, particularly among postmenopausal women with low dietary calcium intake. Bone density scans combined with fracture risk assessment help physicians decide when bisphosphonate therapy is appropriate and how long treatment should continue.
Strict dosing instructions matter because poor absorption and esophageal irritation are common if the tablet is not taken correctly with plain water while upright. Pakistani physicians typically reassess bone density after three to five years of therapy to decide whether to continue, pause, or switch to another treatment option.
