What Experts Say
Psychiatrists consider Olanzapine one of the most effective atypical antipsychotics for controlling hallucinations, delusions and disorganized thinking in schizophrenia. It works by blocking dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain, which helps calm overactive neural signaling linked to psychosis.
Doctors usually start Zyprexa Tablet 10mg at a lower dose and adjust it gradually based on response and tolerance. Regular monitoring of weight, blood sugar and lipid levels is strongly advised, since Olanzapine carries a notable risk of metabolic side effects compared with older antipsychotics.
Experts caution that Olanzapine is not approved for elderly patients with dementia related psychosis, since studies show a higher risk of death in this group. Patients are advised never to stop the medicine suddenly and should always follow up regularly with a psychiatrist during treatment.
