CT Scan

Asked for Female, 47 years

I am due for a CT scan. Regarding my medical history, I had kidney failure. I am pretty much recovered but with this test coming up I am a bit worried. Any suggestions what should I do as I heard its contradiction to my kidney condition?

Dear Patient,

I'm assuming you were told it's contraindicated for your kidneys. If there is a dye being given (CONTRAST CT) then it's harmful for your kidneys. However without contrast (PLAIN CT) is absolutely safe for your kidneys.
Also if for any reasons you still need contrast CT scan then make sure your doctor's and technicians are aware of your history and hydrate you well before and after procedure. If still in doubt consult a nephrologist beforehand.
