Depression

Asked for Female, 27 years

My daughter has been taking meds for her depression for over half a year. Her condition has not improved and she complains about the side-effects of the drugs. The psychiatrist is now suggesting ECT. Can you guide me about the risk and effectiveness of this treatment in treating depression?

Dear Patient,

Ect has known to cause benefits in some scenarios however it remains an extreme form of treatment and must be reserved for cases unresponsive to treatment. Have you sought any counseling techniques for her along with medicines that Psychologists do?
Has she been tested by and diagnosed as depressed before starting treatment or was the diagnosis made in the clinic without testing?
Kindly let us know. There are many good institutes all over Pakistan for mental health care. Kindly get a second opinion from such.
