Diabetes in Pregnancy

Asked for Female, 37 years

If the mother diagnosed with diabtic in 8th month of pregnancy, advised regular insulin (humalog and levemir) and medicines. Expected delivery would be C section, right? Also what are the precautions mother should take? And after birth chances to be normal again? I mean no diabtes

Dear Patient,

No its not necessary that a c section will take place unless the baby is too large or sugar is uncontrolled and mother and child are unwell and at risk.
The mother should follow her diabetologists advice religiously, do not skip/delay medications and avoid all foods as guided. Her sugars can go back to normal once she delivers but she has risk of diabetes in future pregnancies. She should walk regularly and maintain a healthier diet.
