Discharge from Ear

Asked for Male, 49 years

I have an eardrum perforation since childhood. I had tympanoplasty done last year but, that failed. Now, the ear keeps discharging all the time. I completed a course of Ciproxin 500 and Dexatob 5mg ear drops but after a week, the discharge is back. Please advise.

Dear Patient,

Sometimes, infections keep recurring due to some part of it remaining in our ear, or different organisms causing the problem together. What you can do is see an ENT before taking any treatment. He can see if its the same problem as before or something a little different. Also, discuss with him to send a sample of this fluid for ''pus culture' so that you can assess the type of organism causing this and take the most effective treatment. Hope this helps.
