Hepatitis C

My maid's mother is suffering from Hepatitis A. Since it is contagious and besides being aware, I am not sure if they separate utensils or take care of important safety precautions. Also she is the one who looks after her mother quite closely. I am concerned because the girl does kitchen work too and I have kids in my home. Is it safe for her to continue doing chores or not? Which measures can be taken to ensure health safety of her and everyone else?

Dear Patient,

Hepatitis A and E spread from consumption of infected water and food. The number one cause of this is not washing hands properly after defecating (passing stool).
It is best in such situations to not let the maid continue until the health settles. Otherwise, you can ensure to look up good handwashing techniques and show her each step of the video using a good antibacterial soap. Make sure she washes all utensils well too. Basically, hand washing needs to be thorough after using the toilet.
