Intercostal strain

Recently, I was diagnosed with an intercostal strain. The symptoms are pain in the area of strain and swelling. I am coughing up blood coated mucus. My father who is a doctor says that it is not an emergency and that I should be fine. However, I am still concerned as he doesnt know i smoke. The amount of blood in the cough is not very much. But its painful to cough. I do have allergies and suffer from anxiety and depression and take Hiflexil 10mg, Zoloft 100 mg, Brufen 800 mg

Dear Patient,

Due to excessive cough, it is normal to experience a minor tear of your throat and that may cause bleeding. However, it is in your best interest to think about quitting smoking so that nothing more significant develops.
If possible share a photo of the mucus & blood you spit.
Take 2tbsp of relates cough syrup three times a day to release the mucus.
Apply voltral gel n Vicks to your chest. These should help relieve the pain.
Nebulize with 1cc mixed of each: normal saline and atrovent three times a day
