Intercostal strain

Recently, I was diagnosed with an intercostal strain. The symptoms are pain in the area of strain and swelling. I am coughing up blood coated mucus. My father who is a doctor says that it is not an emergency and that I should be fine. However, I am still concerned as he doesnt know i smoke. The amount of blood in the cough is not very much. But its painful to cough. I do have allergies and suffer from anxiety and depression and take Hiflexil 10mg, Zoloft 100 mg, Brufen 800 mg

It could be that due to prolonged periods of cough you are experiencing muscle strain and bloos in cough. How long have you been smoking since? Have you experienced any loss of weight? Any change in bowel habits- alternating btwn diarrhea n constipation? How much blood comes? Color? Share photo plz. If yes its best to consider seeing a specilaist. If not, its a good alarm for you to consider quitting smoking with the help of family n friends. I can see you are concerned for your health and you could perhaps find a healthier “addiction' like some sports to indulge in.
I would recommend a chest xray.
