Otolaryngologists or an ENT specialist diagnose, manage and treat disorders of the head and neck, together with the ears, nose throat, sinuses, speech organ (larynx) and other structures. ENT surgeons are specialized in performing surgeries to treat disorders related to ear, nose and throat like cleft palate, nose surgery, throat surgery etc. Some ENT specialists pursue a one or two-year fellowship for more extensive training in 1 of the 7 sub specialty areas. These include pediatric/child otolaryngology, otology, allergy, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, head and neck surgery, laryngology (throat) and rhinology (nose). Some ENT specialists limit their practices to one of these seven areas.
