About Aga Khan University Hospital Laboratory

The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) is a private, not for profit, university hospital, focusing on the delivery of high quality healthcare in Pakistan for over 30 years since its inception in 1985. The main tertiary care hospital in Karachi offers 24/7 Emergency and Acute Care, and all services under one roof, which includes specialised care, elective and non-elective surgery, consulting clinics, radiology and clinical laboratory services. To offer enhanced patient-centric, holistic care, the hospital is structured into service lines that operate like speciality hospitals within one large hospital. Through this set up, AKUH enables a comprehensive and a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment that results in a continuum of quality care for patients. These service lines include Heart, Lungs and Vascular; Family Health; Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine; Women’s Healthcare; Kidney and Bladder; Mind and Brain; Internal Medicine; Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat; Gastrointestinal Medicine and Surgery; Teeth and Skin; Children’s Hospital, Cancer Hospital; and Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation and Nutrition. In 2006, AKUH became the first teaching hospital in Pakistani to be accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), a gold standard in healthcare delivery. In 2017, the Hospital’s clinical laboratories received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP), an internationally recognised gold standard for clinical laboratories. AKUH is the only University Hospital and Clinical Laboratories in Pakistan that has both JCI and CAP accreditation. It is also ISO accredited for maintaining world-class quality in health services and maintains the highest hygiene and infection control standards through rigorous systems. Services offered at Aga Khan University Hospital Laboratory a. All Lab Tests All Laboratory test are offered under one roof. b. Ultrasound All types of conventional ultrasounds, Color Doppler, TVS & 4-D USG and ultrasound guided procedures. c. X -Ray X-rays are types of electromagnetic radiation probably most well-known for their ability to see through a person's skin and reveal images of the bones beneath it. d. Fistulogram A Fistulogram is a special x-ray procedure. It uses contrast (x-ray dye) to look at the blood flow in your fistula or graft (dialysis access). This procedure can check to see if it is blocked or if there is any narrowing (stenosis). e. Exercise Tolerance Test (ETT) An Exercise Tolerance Test (ETT), through the use of exercise treadmill/bike testing, can be useful for identifying early signs of coronary artery disease. Although a resting Electrocardiogram (ECG) can detect and demonstrate a number of abnormalities, the presence of a normal resting ECG does not rule out the possibility of significant coronary artery disease. f. Doppler A Doppler ultrasound is a noninvasive test that can be used to estimate the blood flow through your blood vessels by bouncing high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) off circulating red blood cells. A regular ultrasound uses sound waves to produce images, but can't show blood flow.
