Professor Rehman's special interest has been Coronary and Paediatric Cardiac Surgery. He has been a pioneer in his field of surgery. He established Cardiac Surgery between 1975 -1980 in all types of diseases, like Coronary Bypass Operation, Complex Congenital Heart Diseases and Valvular Heart Diseases, repair/total correction. He has thus personally performed more than 20,000 (twenty thousand) Open Heart Surgeries so far, which is one of the highest figures in the sub-continent.
