Ascard Tablet Uses

Ascard is an aspirin. It belongs to the group of painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs. It works by reducing the chemical that causes the fever, inflammation and pain in the body. It is also used to prevent thrombosis in the body.

Ascard, as an antiplatelet agent, prevents the formation of blood clots. Otherwise, the clumping together of platelets can block the blood vessels, having a dire impact on the body. Blockage in the vessels of the brain can cause stroke, which is a debilitating condition. Essentially, brain cells die due to the lack of oxygen. Since they do not rejuvenate, the loss has grave implications for the functionality of the brain. Likewise, blood clot in coronary arteries; vessels that supply blood to the heart also results in the death of the muscle tissue, resulting in myocardial infarction, commonly known as heart attack.

Ascard is hence given prophylactically to the patients to lower their chances of stroke and heart attack. It usually is prescribed for long term usage. The major chemical component of Ascard is aspirin, which is also known as acetylsalicylic acid.

Risks and warnings

You should know the risks and warnings of Ascard to prevent its misuse.

There are some specific circumstances under which the use of certain medications is contraindicated or considered dangerous. So if you are taking any medicine its always a good practice to familiarize yourself with its risks and warnings.

The risks and warnings associated with Ascard are:

1. Pregnancy

Pregnant women should only take Ascard at the advice of their doctor. This assessment is generally made out on careful risk versus benefit ratio, as otherwise, analgesics are dangerous during pregnancy. When taken during second and third trimester, they can harm the health of the baby. It is also thus recommended that women of childbearing age should exercise caution and leave the medicine as soon as they conceive. However, prior to leaving the medicine, consulting the doctor first is very important.

2. Breastfeeding

Nursing mothers need to be cautious in their intake of Ascard as well. They should only take it only at their doctor's discretion. The effect of the drug can pass off in the breast milk, and thereby can endanger the health of the baby.

3. Allergic to Aspirin

People who are allergic to Aspirin should not take Ascard or any other medicine with the same generic name. A mild allergic reaction is easier to manage; it causes wheezing, nasal congestion, skin rashes etc., that usually presents as more of a discomfort rather than danger. However, a severe allergic reaction can result in a life-threatening condition known as anaphylactic shock.

4. Skin reaction

Patients who have skin reactions, known as Steven Johnson Syndrome, from Ascard consumption should refrain from taking the pills again. It can otherwise lead to hemolysis.

5. Malnutrition

Individuals with long-term malnutrition should take Ascard with caution.

6. Dehydration

Patients who are dehydrated, or have had lost a lot of fluid, should be given paracetamol IV with caution.

7. Gastric ulcers

For people with gastric ulcers and acidity, extreme caution is recommended when taking Ascard. It inhibits the production of chemical that lines the gastrointestinal tract and protects it. Long-term use of Ascard thus causes ulceration in the lining of the stomach. Your doctor may then have to prescribe gastroprotective agent alongside.

8. Anticoagulants or bleeding disorders

People who are taking anticoagulants for thinning of the blood, or suffer from bleeding disorder, need to take Ascard at the advice of their healthcare provider only. Ascard inhibits the production of chemicals that are responsible for making clotting factors. Since anticoagulants also perform the same task, their effect is compounded in the body when taken together. Therefore, their usage together results in the risk of bleeding due to the increased anticoagulative action.

9. Kidney disease

Patients suffering from kidney disease should take Ascard with caution, since the drug itself leads to kidney impairment when taken for a long period of time.

10. Asthma

Ascard can precipitate existing asthma. Thus, asthmatic people should take it with extreme caution.
