What Experts Say
Pediatricians across Pakistan commonly prescribe co-amoxiclav suspensions for children because respiratory and ear infections remain a leading cause of pediatric clinic visits. The addition of clavulanic acid helps overcome resistance seen with amoxicillin alone, making it useful when a simple penicillin may fail.
Doctors stress that suspension dosing in children must be calculated by body weight rather than age alone, since incorrect dosing can reduce effectiveness or increase side effects. Parents are usually advised to complete the full course even if symptoms improve early, since stopping antibiotics too soon is linked to incomplete recovery and antibiotic resistance in the community.
