Devenda Tablet 250mg Benefits

What Experts Say
Neurologists across Pakistan often start Levetiracetam at a lower strength like 250mg twice daily before titrating upward, since this reduces early side effects such as drowsiness and irritability. The drug is not extensively metabolized by the liver, which makes dosing predictable in patients on other medications. This is one reason doctors reach for it early in newly diagnosed epilepsy.
Because Levetiracetam is largely cleared by the kidneys, physicians adjust the dose in patients with reduced kidney function rather than relying on standard adult dosing. Follow up visits help doctors track seizure frequency and watch for mood related side effects, more common with this drug than some older antiepileptics. Children start on a weight based dose adjusted as they grow.
Doctors counsel patients on strict adherence, since missed doses can trigger breakthrough seizures. Sudden discontinuation is avoided and the dose is tapered gradually under medical supervision when a change in therapy is needed, alongside a discussion of driving restrictions during active treatment.

Drug Interactions
- Other Antiepileptic Drugs: combining with drugs like Phenytoin or Carbamazepine may increase drowsiness even though a direct metabolic interaction is uncommon
- Alcohol: increases sedation and can lower the seizure threshold, best avoided
- Sedatives Or Sleep Aids: combined use raises the risk of excessive drowsiness and impaired coordination
- Methotrexate: coadministration can reduce methotrexate clearance and raise its blood levels
- Probenecid: can reduce the renal clearance of Levetiracetam's metabolite
Risks and warnings
- Kidney Impairment: dose must be reduced in patients with reduced kidney function since the drug is cleared renally
- Mood Changes: watch for irritability, agitation or depression, which are more common with Levetiracetam than with many other antiepileptics
- Suicidal Thoughts: antiepileptic drugs carry a small increased risk of suicidal ideation, report any new mood changes to a doctor promptly
- Pregnancy: use only under specialist supervision since untreated seizures also carry risk to the pregnancy
