What Experts Say

Diclofenac is one of the most widely studied NSAIDs. Applied as a gel, it passes through the skin into the underlying tissue and blocks the enzymes that produce pain and swelling. Gel is not a replacement for medical review when pain follows a serious fall, or when swelling, numbness or fever is present.

Because the body absorbs only a small share compared with tablets, the risk of stomach and kidney effects is lower. It is not zero, so the gel should still be used at the recommended amount and for a limited time. A small amount is enough, since using more does not improve relief and increases the chance of skin irritation.

Gel works best on joints and muscles close to the surface of the skin. It is not meant for deep injuries, open wounds or infected skin, and persistent pain should be checked by a doctor. Rest, ice during the first two days of a sprain and gentle stretching afterward are helpful additions to the gel.

How to use Dicloran Gel 20G?

• Apply a thin layer of Dicloran Gel on the painful area, usually 3 to 4 times a day or as directed.
• Rub in gently until absorbed, and wash your hands afterward.
• Do not apply on broken skin, rashes or wounds, and keep away from eyes and mouth.
• Avoid tight bandages over the area, and do not use for longer than the doctor or label advises.

Drug Interactions

• Oral NSAIDs or aspirin: Using them with the gel can increase total NSAID exposure.
• Warfarin: A small increase in bleeding risk is possible with extensive use.
• Other creams on the same area: Can change how much medicine is absorbed, so avoid layering products.

• Aspirin or NSAID allergy: Do not use if you have had asthma or an allergic reaction after aspirin or other NSAIDs.
• Broken skin: Do not apply on cuts, burns or infected skin.
