Flucort drops contain fluorometholone, a corticosteroid for the eye. It lowers the release of inflammatory chemicals that cause swelling, redness and discomfort. It is usually chosen for allergy driven or inflammatory red eyes. Redness and itching often settle within a few days of regular use.

Compared with stronger steroid drops, fluorometholone tends to have a smaller effect on eye pressure. That makes it a common choice for surface eye inflammation. Any eye discharge, pain or vision change during use should be reported to the doctor. A follow-up visit is usually planned within about two weeks.

It should never be used on an eye that may be infected. Courses are kept as short as possible, and eye pressure is checked if treatment lasts beyond ten days. Older patients and those with glaucoma history need extra care. Never share the bottle, since eye infections spread easily between people, and replace it after four weeks.

How to use Flucort drops 0.10%?

• Shake Flucort well before each use because it is a suspension.
• Instill one drop in the affected eye, usually two to four times a day, as prescribed.
• Keep the dropper tip clean and avoid touching the eye, eyelids or fingers.
• Use other eye drops at least five minutes apart.

Drug Interactions

• Other eye drops: Leave five minutes between different drops for best effect.
• Other corticosteroids: Combined steroid use can add to the risk of raised eye pressure.

Risks and warnings

• Eye pressure: Long use can raise pressure inside the eye and lead to glaucoma, so pressure checks are needed with extended treatment.
• Cataract and slow healing: Prolonged use may cause cataract and slow the healing of corneal wounds.
• Eye infections: Steroid drops can hide or worsen viral, fungal or bacterial infections, especially herpes of the eye.
• Contact lenses: Avoid wearing contact lenses while using the drops unless your eye doctor allows it.
• Pregnancy and children: Use only when the benefit outweighs the risk and under an eye specialist's supervision.
