What Experts Say
Doctors in Pakistan prescribe Mariflox for infections that do not respond to first-line antibiotics like amoxicillin. Levofloxacin blocks bacterial DNA replication, which stops the infection from spreading while the immune system clears the remaining bacteria.
Local physicians often reserve this fluoroquinolone for complicated urinary infections, resistant typhoid strains and hospital-acquired pneumonia. Its once-daily schedule makes it a practical option for patients who struggle with multiple daily doses of other antibiotics.
Health experts caution that fluoroquinolones like levofloxacin carry a boxed warning for tendon rupture, particularly in the Achilles tendon, and can rarely cause QT interval prolongation that affects heart rhythm. Patients over 60, those on steroids and people with existing heart conditions face higher risk, so doctors recommend this medicine only when safer alternatives are not suitable.
