How to use Peridone Syrup?
- This syrup can be taken about fifteen to thirty minutes before meals
- Shake the bottle well before measuring each dose
- Use the measuring cup provided for an accurate dose
- Do not stop this syrup suddenly without consulting your doctor
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with a bowel obstruction or gastrointestinal bleeding
- Known allergy to domperidone rules out use
- Not recommended for patients with a prolactin secreting pituitary tumour
- Should not be taken by patients with moderate to severe liver disease
Drug Interactions
- Ketoconazole and other azole antifungals: these raise the risk of heart rhythm problems with this syrup
- Erythromycin and other macrolide antibiotics: combining them can increase domperidone levels in the blood
- Other medicines that affect heart rhythm: using them together raises the risk of QT prolongation
- Diltiazem or verapamil: these heart medicines can also raise domperidone levels
Risks and warnings
- Heart conditions: use with caution, as this syrup can affect heart rhythm
- Heart failure or low potassium and magnesium levels: this syrup is not recommended, as it raises the risk of dangerous heart rhythms
- Treatment duration: this syrup should generally not be used for longer than one week without medical review
- Liver problems: your doctor may adjust the dose if you have liver impairment
- Elderly patients over sixty: monitor closely due to a higher risk of heart related side effects
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: use only if your doctor considers it necessary
