Promethazine is a first generation antihistamine that blocks histamine and also acts on the brain. This explains its strong effect on allergy, nausea and motion sickness. It also causes marked drowsiness, which is why it is sometimes used for sleep. Its effect often lasts 4 to 6 hours or longer.

How to use Phenergan Syrup 120ml?

• Adults: 10 to 20 mg (10 to 20 ml of syrup) up to 3 times daily, as prescribed.
• Children 2 to 5 years: 5 ml up to twice daily, only as directed by the doctor.
• Children 6 to 10 years: 10 ml once or twice daily, only as directed.
• For motion sickness, give the dose 1 hour before travel.
• Never give to children under 2 years.

Drug Interactions

• Alcohol and sedatives: They can cause heavy drowsiness and slow breathing.
• Other antihistamines and cold medicines: Together they can add to side effects.
• Antidepressants and anticholinergic drugs: They may increase dry mouth, constipation and confusion.
• Metoclopramide: It may raise the risk of movement related side effects.
