Rolip Tablet 20mg Benefits
- Lowers LDL (bad) cholesterol by a larger margin than lower statin doses
- Raises HDL (good) cholesterol levels
- Reduces triglycerides and total cholesterol
- Lowers the long term risk of major cardiac events in high risk patients
- Provides strong lipid control for patients who do not respond enough to 5mg or 10mg doses
What Experts Say
Doctors usually reserve the 20mg dose of rosuvastatin for patients whose LDL cholesterol remains high despite lower doses, or for those with a strong family history of early heart disease. It is also commonly chosen for patients who already have coronary artery disease or diabetes, since they need a bigger drop in LDL cholesterol to lower their long term cardiac risk.
Rosuvastatin works by blocking a liver enzyme the body uses to make cholesterol. At the 20mg dose, this effect is stronger, so physicians usually monitor liver enzymes and ask about unexplained muscle pain more closely than with a lower dose. Blood tests before starting and again after a few months confirm the medicine is working and tolerated well.
Physicians also note that people of South Asian descent tend to process rosuvastatin differently, absorbing more of the drug into the bloodstream. Because of this, many doctors prefer to confirm a patient has already tolerated a lower dose before moving up to 20mg, and they encourage regular lipid panel checks rather than stopping the medicine once cholesterol numbers improve.
