What Experts Say
Doctors across Pakistan usually start Rosuvastatin therapy at a lower strength and reserve the 20mg dose for patients who need a stronger reduction in LDL cholesterol or who have not reached their target despite lower doses and sustained lifestyle changes over several weeks of consistent use.
Physicians recommend baseline liver function testing before starting therapy at this strength, since higher doses of Rosuvastatin carry a greater chance of raising liver enzymes or causing muscle related side effects. Unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness is checked promptly during follow up visits.
This strength requires extra caution in patients of Asian ancestry, who process Rosuvastatin more slowly and face higher drug exposure at the same dose compared with other populations. Doctors across Pakistan often weigh this factor carefully when deciding whether the 20mg strength suits a given patient.
