What Experts Say
Psychiatrists prescribe Risperidone because it blocks dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors in the brain. This dual action calms hallucinations and disordered thinking while causing fewer stiff, shaky movements than older antipsychotics. Doctors usually start with a low tablet dose and raise it slowly to find the smallest effective amount.
Schizophrenia and severe bipolar disorder often go under-diagnosed in Pakistan due to stigma around mental illness and few trained psychiatrists. Many families delay treatment until symptoms become unmanageable at home. Generic Risperidone tablets keep therapy affordable, helping patients continue treatment for the months or years it usually requires.
Regular follow up is needed to track weight, blood sugar and prolactin levels, since Risperidone can affect metabolism and hormones over time. Doctors also watch for tremor, restlessness or unusual muscle stiffness, especially in older adults. Never stop the tablet suddenly, because abrupt withdrawal can trigger a relapse of psychotic symptoms.
