Chronic Constipation

Asked for Female, 61 years

Elderly lady of 55+ suffering from chronic constipation since 2 weeks. Took her to the ER where she was given enema which was of no help then duphilic medicine in an enema then lastly physical DIR was performed to break the hard stool. She was prescribed high fiber sachet and duphilc syrup which she has taken at night. It has been 12 hours but she has had no bowel movement and is in extreme pain with abdominal bloating! Please help what can be done now??

Dear Patient,

Duphalac, enema, DRE are effective immediate treatments for constipation.
For longterm control, you can do the following, give ispaghol husk in warm water daily at night to your patient. Give papaya fruit, pears, apples, mangoes in their diet esp if they aren't diabetic. Give overnight soaked 2 figs with the water to your patient on an empty stomach. Give duphalac syrup upt0 30ml as soon as you suspect an oncoming constipation cycle. Have high amounts of water and fiber in your diet since they form the bulk of stool and having high amounts of it can help avoid this terrible state.

Dear Patient,

Hello. must be a painful situation. I would like to know since when are you having this problem. and whats your diet and daily water intake. any other symptoms? you ll have to increase water intake and visit a good gastroenterologist to locate the cause behind constipation and ll have to modify your diet accordingly. adding more fresh fruits and vegetable aid you in it.
