Dry Cough

My younger brother is suffering from severe dry cough from past few days. Doctor prescribed medicine which we are giving him regularly even then no considerable improvement. Kindly suggest any Doctor or medicine for so.

Which medicine did he take? Does he have any allergies/asthma? Does he smoke? Is there any fever? Are there any pets in the house?
Kindly, give him tablet softin before bed for 1 week. Along with syrup reltus, 2tbsp three times/dy. If symptoms don't improve in a week, please see a specialist.
