Ferenjet Iron 5

I Got Ferenjet iron IV today at National hospital and they sent me home immediately. When I reached home, severe urticaria type skin reaction started occurring all over the body. My blood pressure was shooting and my veins collapsed. They couldn't find my veins and my arms started turning blue. They gave allergy medicines IV. I was given oxygen. Started feeling pain in my heart and my ECG was done. After good one hour my vitals were maintained. I feel dizziness and nausea. Can it be anaphylaxis?

Dear Patient,

Yes, it is rare but it was anaphylaxis. The vitals (bp, pulse, respiration, temperature) should be noted before ANY drips and the speed of Iron infusion should be less than 50% of the recommended speed. It is a rare complication but can occur. For future before any admission you should tell your doctor about this episode and that you are susceptible to this particular type of iron.
