GTT Test

Asked for Female, 26 years

I am Pcos patient and 20 years old currently 24weeks and few days pregnant my dr. prescribed me GTT test. I want to ask that what is the procedure of this test? how many blood sample will they take? Can I drink water during fasting for this test? As much as I want???

Dear Patient,

Oral glucose tolerance test is conducted in most pregnant women a sroutine test to diagnose diabetes. Yes you can have as much water as you like and any necessary medicines but no other food.
Three blood samples are taken in three hrs (one hr apart). First is on an empty stomach, 2nd is after 1hr of a sugary drink the lab gives you (glucose in water) n 3rd is after 2hrs. Normal results in range means your sugar control is enouh and you dont have gestational diabetes.
