HCV Positive Patient

Asked for Female, 89 years

My grandmother aged 84 years is HCV positive, has cholelithiasis, splenomegaly, and small reducible paraumbilical hernia. Her disease of cholelithiasis and hernia are going asymptomatic, no pain, no nausea vomiting but she complaints abound distended abdomen sometimes The question is should we go for anti HCV therapy at this age or not?

Dear Patient,

All these symptoms are consistent with her diagnosis of HCV and liver damage. Wouldn't it be best to ask this question from a hepatologist? It's one time visit but you will then know for sure how critical her health is and if treatment is necessary and beneficial for her. Good luck.
