Hypothyroid Issues

Asked for Female, 32 years

I was diagnosed with hypothyroid in 2017 and since than I am taking Thyroxin. I got my CBC done too and I got to know that the white blood cells were too much than the normal number. The doctor suggested that I have to get them checked every month. Later, they started to reduce. They keep on varying every month and I am extremely worried. Is it signs of Leukemia or cancer? What are the possible issues?

Dear Patient,

Thyroid imbalance is KNOWN to cause changes in white blood AND red blood cells. Your doctor has asked you to repeat these tests so he can monitor your disease and if the values are abnormally high then he can be aware of it. Any cancer generally causes loss of excessive weight and appetite, you would have constant fever/infections/feeling of extreme weakness.
During thyroid issues you may experience milder changes in your mood, sleep, appetite, and health as well but these are normal and will improve after treatment. Hope this helps.
