Increased Cretanine

My mother’s recent medication which was Lasix 40mg she took twice a day due to CHF perhaps has caused her increased in Cretanine from 2.6 to 3.0 in a week. She was maintaining her cretanine between 2.4-2.6 for the past 8 years after her hydronephrosis surgery. What could be the accurate reason for it?

Dear Patient,

Lasix is not normally a drug that can directly damage kidneys. However, due to dehydration caused by Lasix, the creatinine may have increased. This may be a temporary problem that can resolve if meds are changed or a much bigger problem that needs to be seen by a specialist. Due to CHF, some kind of treatment will be given to reduce the load on the heart. You will need to visit a nephrologist and his primary doc first who is treating CHF. Good luck.
