Kidney stones

I recently got to know that I am having a kidney stone that is stuck in some tube. Its size is 7mm and the doctors said that my kidney is blocked now. I want to know what should I do? When should I get myself treated and if I delay is it harmful?

Dear Patient,

Kidneys are the organs that make the urine. The urine then passes through a series of structures to the outside: ureter>bladder>urethra>external genitals.
Most likely your stone is blocking one of your ureters and that side of the kidney is affected. If the outflow is blocked for too long, toxins can build up in your body and kidney will be burdened, the other working kidney will have excess load and the damage can be a lot. Time depends on many things including the condition of your health.
Stone removal can be through medicines, surgery, laser, lithotripsy, etc. Consider getting treated as suggested by the urologist.
