Low platelet count

Asked for Male, 88 years

My father is admitted in hospital for low platelet - 8000/cumm. Testing of dengue, NS1 are negative. After Injection of platelet: 4 unit-12000/cumm +2 unit-23000/cumm +4 unit-22000/cumm. Is it normal? Is the treatment in right direction?

The platelet count seems to be improving overall. The treatment is to replace cells externally and find the cause meanwhile.
Things that could be causing his low count are diseases like chikungunya, some kind of infection. Does he smoke/drink/take any social drug? Does he have any other disease like high bp or sugar?
