Lump at the back of Knee

My mother age 62 is having fluid-filled swelling (like a small ball) that causes a lump at the back of her knee. She feels pain while walking and standing for kitchen work. Any recommendations from a doctor? I hope it's not dangerous. Thanks in advance.
