Medication Advice

Asked for Female, 35 years

A 30-year female known case of rheumatoid arthritis since 2years. She is on follow up by rheumatologist since then, she was on methotrexate 10mg initially but now it is tapered off to 2.5 mg, since 2 weeks she complained of excessive morning stiffness, excessive pain. Now, what should do, should we increase the dose of methotrexate? As her rheumatologist is in abroad nowadays so she cant consult her. Kindly help

Dear Patient,

I'm so sorry to hear that. Excessive stiffness and pain do imply that the disease is a little more aggressive nowadays. The smart thing to do would be to raise the dose by 2.5 to 5mg for a while. However, I would recommend you to check with another rheumatologist while her current one is away so that he can review her and her medicines and guide accordingly.
