Pregnancy Blood Test

I did a pregnancy test at home and it came out negative so I went to see my gynecologist and he performed an ultra sound. He told me that it seems negative to him so he wrote me a blood test for pregnancy and that report shows it is positive. So is it 100% or do I need to go for more tests?

Dear Patient,

No, you don't need further tests. Congratulations, you are pregnant. An ultrasound does NOT show anything up until 5-8 weeks.
After a home pregnancy/urine test a blood test is the next step. Ultrasounds are an economic burden to perform at such an early stage. The MOST confirmatory test is a blood test and is least likely to be false.
