Pregnancy Issues

Asked for Female, 31 years

I am nine weeks pregnant. I have never had cyst in my life but during pregnancy my u/s seems to show a cyst in my left ovary. Why did it happen and how is it going to effect my pregnancy? Is it dangerous for my health?

Dear Patient,

A cyst may have been present always in your ovary without your knowledge, or it may have just occurred. Due to the inc in hormones during pregnancy, any latent/new cyst enlarges and manifests itself. Often they remain asymptomatic and can be controlled medically or regress themselves or don't need any treatment. Sometimes they may need to be removed. Cysts are normally benign and can be removed once the pregnancy is over. Depending on the type and size of the cyst, your gynecologist will be able to advise you better. Monitoring cyst regularly for growth calculation is a normal practice in pregnancy.
