Swelling in legs

When I get up in the morning everything is normal after I've had a night's sleep, but once the day goes on, my foot and leg, up to my knee, begin to swell. Once back in a horizontal position it gets better. I just had a physical exam month ago and all wasnormal. The swelling doesn't hurt, just the tightness. Also, my lower back has some pain if I stand or walk too long. The same spot gets spasms when I get the pain. The pain doesn't last long in the lower back. What do you suggest???
