Most women are very particular about their skincare routine. They cleanse, tone, and moisturize their skin. They try to take care of their diet. They treat themselves to facials and masks. However, not many of us are mindful of the habits that are potentially damaging to our skin. Over the years, these seemingly harmless habits will determine the state of our skin in the years to come. These little things matter a lot and are detrimental to the health of our skin. Here are some things you should avoid if you want to maintain healthy skin.

1- Chlorine:

A lot of people like to go swimming in the summer season but most swimming pools have chlorine. Chlorine can stick to your skin even after you take a shower and may even interfere with your topical medications. Make sure you cleanse your skin properly after you go swimming.

2- Not Reapplying Sunscreen:

Even though you shouldn’t avoid sunlight, as it is the best source of vitamin D, you should certainly limit your exposure to it. Whenever you go out, make sure you have sunscreen on to protect yourself from the harmful UV rays that lead to premature aging. However, you will have to keep reapplying sunscreen throughout the day for it to effectively protect you from the harmful rays of the sun. Reapplication of sunscreen is recommended every two hours. Basically, sunscreen tends to evaporate and that’s why you need to reapply it. If you think sunscreens are too sticky, use a face powder with SPF instead. Apart from protecting you from the UV rays, it will also keep your face matte.

3- Not Getting Enough Sleep:

When we sleep, our body repairs itself. That’s why lack of sleep can be damaging to your skin. Inadequate amount of sleep will make you tired and accelerate the aging process. Your skin faces a lot of things throughout the day such as UV radiation, hypothermia, lack of oxygen because of heavy makeup, gases in the atmosphere, and internal stress. When you sleep, your skin gets to repair itself. That’s why you should never underestimate the importance of beauty sleep.

4- Sweet Tooth Foods:

Foods that are highly glycemic can not only lead to weight gain, but they are also bad for your skin. Sugar is a threat from collagen and elastic, which are the most important components of a youthful skin. Desserts increase insulin levels in the body that leads to inflammation. This can lead to pigmentation, wrinkles, and acne. Try to limit the intake of sugary foods.

5- Caffeinated Beverages:

Your caffeine addiction is dehydrating your skin and inviting wrinkles. Limit your intake of tea and coffee. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking lots of fluids such as water, flavored water, lemonade, and fresh juices.

6- Excess Of Sodium:

Going overboard with sodium laden foods can severely dehydrate your skin. Try to avoid the temptation to indulge in salty treats and have a balanced diet instead.
