Tonsilitis is inflammation of the tonsils which are two dome-shaped pads of tissue at the back of the throat. Tonsilitis may be caused by a bacterial or viral infection. Common symptoms include swollen tonsils, sore throat, difficulty in swallowing and lymph nodes on the side of the neck.
