Abifix suspension only works against bacterial infections, not viral illnesses like flu, cold or COVID-19. The full course should be completed even if the child feels better after two or three days, since stopping early can lead to antibiotic resistance.

How to use Abifix suspension 100mg / 5ml?

• Shake the bottle well before every use to mix the suspension evenly
• Measure the dose with the marked oral syringe or spoon provided, not a kitchen spoon
• Give the dose with or without food, at evenly spaced intervals as advised by the doctor
• Complete the full course even if symptoms improve within a few days
• Store the reconstituted suspension in the refrigerator and discard leftover medicine after 14 days

Drug Interactions

• Warfarin: Cefixime may increase the blood thinning effect of warfarin and raise bleeding risk.
• Carbamazepine: Taking cefixime with carbamazepine can raise carbamazepine levels in the blood.
• Probenecid: Probenecid slows down cefixime clearance and can increase its levels in the body.
• Oral typhoid vaccine: Antibiotics like cefixime can reduce the effectiveness of the live oral typhoid vaccine.

Risks and warnings

• Allergy: Avoid Abifix suspension if the child has a known allergy to cephalosporin or penicillin antibiotics.
• Kidney disease: Dose adjustment is needed in children with reduced kidney function.
• Diarrhea: Cefixime can cause loose stools or, rarely, severe diarrhea that needs medical attention.
• Other medicines: Tell the doctor about all other medicines the child is taking before starting Abifix.
• Missed dose: Give the missed dose as soon as remembered, but skip it if the next dose is near.
