What Experts Say
Montelukast sodium blocks leukotriene D4 receptors in the airway lining. This action reduces the inflammation, mucus buildup and muscle tightening that trigger asthma attacks. The 10mg tablet is the standard adult strength, taken once daily in the evening.
Pulmonologists in Pakistan often prescribe Aerokast tablet 10mg for adults with persistent asthma, especially where indoor dust, seasonal pollen and vehicle smog in cities like Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Rawalpindi worsen symptoms. It also helps patients who wheeze during exercise or after cold air exposure.
Montelukast carries a caution for neuropsychiatric effects such as mood changes, sleep disturbance, agitation and rarely suicidal thoughts. Patients and caregivers should report any behavioral change to their doctor promptly, and the ongoing need for the tablet should be reviewed periodically.
