What Experts Say
Fenap Drops contain nepafenac, an NSAID that is converted to amfenac inside the eye tissue. Amfenac blocks the COX enzymes that make prostaglandins, the chemicals that cause pain and swelling. Each drop delivers a small amount of medicine where it is needed most. Nepafenac has a proven role in lowering the chance of swelling at the center of the retina after cataract surgery.
It is usually prescribed by an eye surgeon around the time of cataract surgery, starting before the operation and continuing afterward for a set period. Following the exact schedule matters for a smooth recovery. Regular follow up visits allow the doctor to check healing and eye pressure.
Eye NSAIDs can delay healing of the cornea if used too long or in a damaged eye. Do not use these drops without an eye doctor's advice, and report eye pain, vision changes or discharge quickly. Never share the bottle, as this can spread infection between eyes or people.
