What Experts Say

Nepafenac is a prodrug that gets converted inside the eye into amfenac, an active nonsteroidal anti inflammatory compound. Amfenac blocks the cyclooxygenase enzyme, which lowers production of prostaglandins that cause pain, swelling and redness after ocular surgery.

Physicians in Pakistan commonly prescribe this drop before and after cataract surgery to control postoperative inflammation and reduce discomfort. Because it penetrates ocular tissue well, once to three times daily dosing is often enough compared with older ophthalmic NSAIDs that need more frequent use.

How to use Nepac Drops 0.1%?

• Wash hands before using the eye drop to avoid contaminating the bottle tip
• Tilt the head back and place one drop into the affected eye as directed
• Avoid letting the dropper tip touch the eye or eyelid
• Wait at least five minutes before using any other eye drop
• Use exactly as prescribed, usually starting one day before surgery and continuing afterward

Drug Interactions

• Other Topical NSAIDs: Using more than one NSAID eye drop together raises the risk of corneal side effects.
• Corticosteroid Eye Drops: Combined use needs physician supervision, since both affect ocular inflammation.
• Oral Blood Thinners: Anticoagulant medicines may add to bleeding risk during eye procedures.
