What Experts Say
Doctors in Pakistan frequently prescribe this type of capsule for common bacterial infections that do not need hospital admission, since it can be taken by mouth once or twice a day. Family physicians often favor it for chest infections, throat infections, and urinary tract infections because of its simple dosing schedule.
Pharmacists usually stress that the full course must be completed, even after symptoms improve, since stopping early allows surviving bacteria to multiply again and can lead to resistant infections later. A culture test is sometimes advised for infections that do not respond within a few days.
Medical guidelines note that this antibiotic class does not treat viral illness such as flu or the common cold, so testing or a clear clinical diagnosis should guide its use. Experts also recommend caution in patients with a history of penicillin allergy, since cross reactions can occur.
